African Drums: Oil Painting Demo Step 5
Welcome to the Step 5 of the Oil Painting Demo of African Drums.
These are drums that were used by an African Dance group during my Traditional Marriage ceremony in Nigeria. I was taken in by the beauty and versatility of the African Drums that I could not help but paint them.
I focused on the drums today. Adding more highlights and depth here and there to give it a more solid shape.
For some reason, African Drums are secured with rubber ropes/strands (yet to understand why they do that!!!).
To paint the ropes I used a mixture of Burnt Umber and Alizarin Crimson to put in the strands.

Over the years I have used several places/spaces as a painting studio. I started off by using the corner of the room I shared with my twin sister in the late 90’s. I had just discovered Oil paints and I was painting like crazy. I have used the top of the kitchen table, the dining table and a garage. The places used could change but the art stays the same because the artist does not change.
Painting is a very rewarding and versatile skill which can be mastered by anyone who’s determined to paint. I am in no way an expert in the field of fine art. As a medic I appreciate that I am a big stranger in this field but yet again I believe art is medicine and medicine is art. Still waiting for someone who can prove me wrong on that!
I have a passion for the arts and painting in particular. This has been the main motivating force in my life as an artist and painter. I have discovered that the more I paint, the better I get; and I know this can apply to anyone else.
Acrylic paint is one of the most versatile paints around and is simply awesome...but it is also notorious for drying up very quickly. This can both destroy your brushes and lead to the wasting of your paints.Unlike using Oil paint, for you to use Acrylic paint effectively and to get the best out of it you need some tips to guide you.
