Arts in Health and GP Education
I was invited to take part in a 2-day programme focusing on the role of Arts in Health and GP Education and it that turned out to be lots of fun.
I gave a talk on the role Art has played in my life as a physician and I mainly reflected on how Art has helped me cope with the daily pressures of frontline medicine as well as maintaining a good work-life balance.
I enjoyed the talks delivered by the other speakers. Andy Clay read out a poem written by one of her trainees. It was a very poignant reminder of how easy it is to get sucked in by the demands put on us by society while at the same time losing one’s ability to appreciate the little things in life.
I also had the opportunity to display a few of my paintings. It is always fun and thought-provoking watching people when they look at my work.
I haven’t been able to muster the courage to walk away. My curiosity always gets the upper hand and I would always try to engage the viewers.
In the end, I end up answering the same questions over and over again:
What inspired the piece?
What did you use?
How did you do it?
How long did it take?
